BASES
ADULT DODGEBALL LEAGUES
FALL 2012 League Important Dates:
OPEN HOUSE(s): THURSDAY, November 1st at 7:30PM (FREE....for old teams, new teams and curious individuals) 1st NIGHT OF COMPETITION: THURSDAY, November 8th (times to be announced)
The Adult (Over 18) Dodgeball League is preparing for its seventh season, 2012 Fall League. A summary of each of the first six seasons is presented below. The BASES Dodgeball Leagues offer excercise and fierce competition in a friendly environment. The regular season portion of each league provides an opportunity for each team to learn the rules and refine their dodgeball skills while scoping out the competitions strengths and weaknesses. Winning and losing is played down during the regular season (although not everyone thinks so....) in the interest of excercise and friendly competition. A one week tournament at the end of each league brings out the best (and sometimes the worst) in everyone as the focus becomes more on winning than playing the game (although us older folks are happy just getting through the game...). Even during tournament week there is no prize except for "bragging rights" until next season.
A few things make the BASES Dodgeball league a little different than other local leagues. One of these differences is some subtle variations in the North American Dodgeball Association (NADA) rules. Another is the friendly atmosphere and comradery that teams develop with each other as the seasons progress. The final difference is the fact that, at BASES, the dodgeball court is surrounded by nets on three of the four sides so balls stay in the playing field more than they would when playing in a gymnasium. This makes the game faster and more physically challenging due to its quickened pace and presence of six-balls at nearly all times.
We will begin our next league (the Fall 2012 League) in November, 2012. Our OPEN HOUSE night for new teams and individuals who want to see what this is all about is scheduled for THURSDAY, November 1 at 7:30PM. The first night of competition for the Fall 2012 League is THURSDAY, November 8th (7:30PM or later; exact times to be announced later).
COST: Typically around $300 per season per team. The Fall 2012 League will cost $300 per team (breaks down to $30 per person if you have 10 players). Team fees are required to be paid in-full prior to the first night of competition. Any team that registers and pays in-full by Thursday, November 1st will be given a $50 Early Registration Discount so your total league fee will be ONLY $250. This includes a BASES Dodgeball league T-shirt (in your chosen team color) for each player (up to 10) on your roster. Shirts for additional roster players (beyond the first 10) are available for a nominal cost.
NOTE: BOLD and Color Denotes League Champion for each season.
Season: 2010 Fall League Length: 6 weeks plus 1 mid-season practice week plus 1 tournament week Teams: 1) Optimus Lime (lime); 2) Quack Attack (black); 3) Balls to the Wall (sapphire blue); 4) Young, White, and Dangerous (white) League Summary: 1st seed Quack Attack defeated 4th seed Balls to the Wall in the opening tournament match. Optimus Lime defeated Young, White and Dangerous in the other semi-final match. Quack Attack defeated Optimus Lime in the Championship game to capture their 4th title in six seasons. The opening game of the Championship match was arguably the best game ever played in the history of BASES dodgeball. The opening game lasted 13 minutes and had numerous swings in personnel and game lead. Optimus Lime took that 1st game to take the early lead but Quack Attack followed with an all out assault against the backbone of the Optimus Lime team to take command of the rest of the match.
Season: 2010 Summer League Length: 6 weeks plus 3 tournament weeks Teams: 1) Optimus Lime (lime); 2) Dynasty plus One (black); 3) The Misfits (navy blue) League Summary: Optimus Lime defeated The Misfits; Dynasty plus One defeated Optimus Lime in the Finals!
Season: 2010 Winter League Length: 6 weeks plus tournament week Teams: 1) Dynasty (black); 2) Optimus Lime (lime), 3) The Hitmen (carolina blue), 4) Stainless Steel (gray) League Summary: Number one seeded Dynasty (formerly known as Quack Attack) defeated newcomers, Stainless Steel in the opening round of the tournament while Optimus Lime defeated The Hitmen. Optimus Lime defeated Dynasty in the championship match, squashing their hopes for a "three-peat". We're sure it had something to do with the name change from Quack Attack to the downright cockey Dynasty.
Season: 2009 Fall League Length: 9 weeks plus tournament week Teams: 1) Quack Attack (black); 2) Optimus Lime (lime), 3) The Hitmen (carolina blue), 4) ADD (kelly green) League Summary: Quack Attack defeated ADD by forfeit in the opening round while The Hitmen (formerly The Sandlot Beasts) and newcomers, Optimus Lime, battled to the death. The Hitmen advanced but had very little left for the well rested champions. Quack Attack soundly defeated The Hitmen in the championship match to take a second consecutive championship. Season: 2009 Late Summer League Length: 5 weeks plus tournament week Teams: 1) Quack Attack (black), 2) Hot As Pancakes (orange), 3) Sandlot Beasts (forest green), 4) The Knockouts (royal blue), 5) The Wolfpack (maroon), 6) ADD (kelly green) League Summary: Number one and two seeds, Quack Attack and Hot As Pancakes, earned first round byes. The Sandlot Beasts defeated ADD in the opening round while The Knockouts knocked-out The Wolfpack. Quack Attack then defeated The Knockouts in the semi-finals while the Sandlot Beasts upset second seeded Hot As Pancakes. Quack Attack defeated the Sandlot Beasts in a fierce battle between brothers for the championship. Quack Attack avenged their championship loss to Free Ballin' from the previous season.
Season: 2009 Summer League - Innaugural Season Length: 9 weeks plus tournament week Teams: 1) Quack Attack (black), 2) Hot As Pancakes (orange), 3) Free Ballin' (gray) 4) Sandlot Beasts (forest green) League Summary: Free Ballin' came from the third seeded team to capture the championship in the innaugural dodgeball season. Quack Attack calmed the Sandlot Beasts in the opening round while Free Ballin' flatenned Hot As Pancakes. Free Ballin' then kept their momentum going and ducked past number one seed, Quack Attack, for the championship.
The Game: The game is played with 6 balls on a court that is 60' long by 30' wide (30' x 30' per side). If you get hit with a LIVE ball, you're out and you go to the mat in the corner of your team's side of the court. When someone on your team catches a LIVE ball, the first player out comes back in and the person throwing the caught ball (on the other team) is out. Sound simple? It is, but it isn't when the game is moving at 60 MPH. Sometimes things happen so fast that even the most "honest" person on the court has to be told that they are out. The most important part of the game is the "honor system" of calling yourself out when hit. One official can only see so much when 6 balls are flying around at the same time.
The full set of league rules will be posted to this area in the near future (after the latest round of modifications are completed by the BASES Dodgeball Rules Committee).
